Where our information comes from

Style guides describe each look by its visual language: line, palette, shading, proportion and texture. Where a guide says where a look comes from, the claim is sourced to museum and encyclopedia references such as Tate, MoMA, the Met, the V&A and Britannica, listed on the page. The examples shown are Toonsta's own outputs from the app's screenshots, never stock art passed off as results.

How we use AI

The app generates portraits with AI. On this site, AI may help draft, but every origin claim is checked against its source before a page becomes indexable, and the style descriptions are written from the app's real outputs.

What a result is

Every generation is a new interpretation of the photo you provide, not a tracing of it. Two runs of the same photo differ, and a style suits some photos better than others, which is why each guide says what to shoot. Styles are described generically and are not affiliated with any studio, film or brand.

Why the styles are named the way they are

Cartoon looks have histories, and some of those histories belong to studios with names everybody knows. This site does not use those names. A style is described by what you can see in it, so a reader learns to recognize a look rather than a logo, and the app's own style names are used where they exist. That is a deliberate editorial rule, not an oversight, and it is enforced by the build.

The style library is organized by family: anime and manga, 3D and game looks, comic and pop art, illustration, painterly, retro and pixel, and caricature. Each guide follows the same shape so styles can be compared: the look in five traits, its origins, what it suits, and how to shoot for it. Guides are re-checked when the app's library changes.
